The spontaneous beauty of scraps accumulating on my work table charmed me more than once and this piece was created in a spirit of playfulness. I could not resist the colorful bits landing together and making festive compositions of their own accord, so I committed to the idea of saving my snips and using them on a larger scale. I layered the canvas for the sheer fun of it, without any type of formal structure. It was a liberating way to create and a notable departure from the usual degree of precision in my work. I found I would add to the canvas as a way to unwind or when I needed a quick creative outlet. Each new addition served as a mini-record of another project’s progress and aligned with my minimal waste philosophy. This work is all about celebrating the unexpected moments of joy peppered throughout our day. (The 5x7 print image is a close-up crop of the full image).
