After much anticipation, this is the first piece I created after unpacking my studio in the autumn of 2019. It was my first collage at the beginning of a new chapter and represents being ready for the business of creative work. Coffee is where it rightfully begins. The mug is inspired by an actual teacup that was lovingly given to me by a fellow artist friend on my birthday some years ago. It is colorful and vibrant and infused with memories and contemplation evocative of lingering over a hot cup either in solitude or with company. It is also a piece that was experimental in nature as I played with my materials in new ways and tested out new techniques. The variety of textures and patterns translate particularly well in the print version.
The materials themselves are a collection of global mementos and memories, many of which relate back to processing life's events and sharing stories with the comfort of a hot cup in hand.
