This collage was created for a young whale enthusiast, who is enchanted by the majestic orca. In researching a little bit about orcas and their symbolic meaning, I learned they are highly intelligent creatures known for their ability to communicate, reflecting curiosity and playfulness. Their social order is matrilineal, where leadership within the pod transfers from mother to daughter and males are relied upon for protection of the young. Orcas are considered very nurturing for these reasons and have strong associations with harmony and love. They also denote longevity because of their long lifespan, protection because of their imposing size and faithfulness because of their devotion to their mates and their pod. It is easy to understand how orcas can capture the imagination with a sense of wonder. Katie herself embodies an inquisitive mind, outgoing spirit, expansive heart and loyalty to her family. This piece of art was lovingly created to celebrate the joys of friendship, mutual support and connection.
