This piece commemorates cherry blossom season. It was created during the early weeks of the 2020 lockdown and in my local area the cherry blossoms were particularly prolific and lovely. Although they typically bloom in tight clusters, these particular blossoms are spaced at intervals while still connected to one another. It is a gentle reminder that no matter how dark and bleak a winter season may be, new life adapts and prepares itself to emerge in the warmth and light.

Each blossom was created with a dozen individual layers of petals. The materials are from the US, Europe and Asia and include decorative wrapping papers, origami paper, a map, a wine label, cherry blossom food packaging, a book cover, a sheet from a booklet, a receipt, and fabric. Each flower was carefully assembled so that no individual layer distracts from the total effect of the flower. Similarly, no single flower distracts from the whole composition. They work cohesively as independent members of their group.
